If Making Makes us Thine

Dear soul, how long it’s been?

The poems in your mouth

That went unsaid?

My heart’s heart has no longer

The flowers of will, only

A silent longing that’s no longer

The beady desire of blood

Bless you and what’s near to you

Though, who said the journey ever stopped

We just became somebody else

As the months rolled into blinding anonymity

We moved closer to the light

To love you much and yet

To love more in the freedom of being

Dear soul, it doesn’t matter how many years

Tomorrow is a world without end

For others to feel the magic

While words remain and joys will echo on

Like children asking questions about the universe

We’re all I love you firsts, and afterwards

Where our love can be remembered

In the happy solace of helpmet age

Where age is just a number

And poems only mirrored garments

Our hearts once wore in sunlight

Different than today’s

The Western Seas

Xiao Wei, if the moon hath left the sky

Be it for you, lost in the Pleiads’ light

With such a soft sweet glow,

It is midnight here, but I wonder as

Time slips by, why you live in me

With the ache of breeze and infinity

How does the moon disappear

Into the sea, and how does she know?

That time lasts as long as fruit hungry

For the ground, to transport the seed

As if it was all fated long ago

Our ancestors met and moved

To new valleys and new shores

Only to result in our eyes looking

Reaching over oceans as such

Xiao Wei, where do the birds roam?

That they look not for fragments

But they feel the whole, the earth, wind and seas

From above, how lost I am in this digital world

Where the future is a simulation

And a woman is a dream, I guess

I will never truly visit California

It’s only an idea lost in your voice

Where memory is graft that outgrows itself

From reality and between fantasy

All summer kinship dispels the mortal rose

Xiao Wei, but I will remember thee.

Unmentionables

Unmentionables

Come slowly, into my life
Like a tail wind of all the charm
I always wished for, but never found
The church of my faith is dim

I could submit so easily to the right person
Reaching late for a flower
Round my heart that hums
And lost in balms I’d be

A secret for you to savour, dear
Lost I am lit for this
Counting stars and nectars
In solitude, but not alone

I would be united
In every drop of blood
With something of life’s mystery
Eros to harrow in my looks

Wild winds to sweet my fears away
Uprooted yesterdays, I’d be
Vengeance of all the thrift
You saved in your years

Of places you never went
And intimacy you always craved.

During our Love Festivals Lasted Longer

7

It’s High Holidays now
Between us, fate intervened
That’s an ideal Religion

It’s love of course, with friendship
I’ll blow the Ram’s horn
And you can tell me it’s Spring

Emotions for close combat
And this army of happiness
Machines are really missing out

No hiding back in function and task
It’s High Holidays here
Asleep in our spiritual biology

But not alone, there’s no duty in love
It’s all service for one cause
And Beloved mystery for the same

Unity of eternal heart burning red
And the words here are never bitter
Jerusalem is where the heart is.

When Geography Meets Biography

68

My sky, lights up with questions/
When I am with you
Like an applause meter of naturalness
Acceptance, is a beautiful thing

With references, of quiet friendship/
I don’t need clever turns of phrase
But simplicity, that spells out the
Beautiful names, like laughter unbidden

I’d cherish that, like lightning/
Out on the evening veranda
Or raindrops heavy with moisture
That long for the ground, the quiet Earth

So strong and stable, so in need/
Of a little water, that’s how I am with you –
A running light, of golden miles
As far as the eyes can see, it’s comforting

To know, that I can find contentment/
Light-jeweled in the parks
Turning in only conversation, forth & replied
Like a deeper comfort into the night.
