Angels in Water

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Climbing clouds down to their source
I stumbled into Hae.mi in the Himalayas
She winked at me before we got to the tip

Of the Asian pacific rim of trust
It didn’t take long to know her wetness
The liquid laugh and sighs of freedom

Discovery was not what it once was
But the breezy evening of everything together
The density and timing of our moving lives

That pulls the knots out of their ruts
As warmth spills in-between the skin
That are the neurotransmitters of our insight

The weaving of consciousness and body’s self
And genes that got us this far, instinct
Where the azure brilliance of thirst no longer
Obeying the salt of hope, but thunder
And an inkling for lightning in the pools

Where mothers of pearl are in our blood
And our lips are the roots of talking and energy
That we pass around like stories of how to float
In an ocean of so much beauty, we sometimes forget
How and why we met, thousands of years ago

And why familiarity never dulled, how we moved
Together underwater, properly, in airy fields of dream.

THESE ARE THY WONDERS

20

how fresh o lord is your morbid flower
that plays with spring as in a dream
and returns in so many other colors

only to redeem the world with fragrance?
how strange is the land of evening
beauty so strange to reincarnate flowers

to which all grief melts away
in a garden of lush belonging
that says: “this too can happen on the earth”

like snow in may and blooms in december
i should suggest we learn a bit from flowers
how to act, to smile when the sun comes out

and to rejoice simply by the effort it takes
to say hello, to another down the road
these are thy wonders here, the pleasures

which run fast in paradise, for petals
and the dew, for flowers can wither fine
there will be another, after this shower.

City Without a Name of Winter

24

Watching the crowds in their dark jackets
I can tell that winter is on its way
There are no grey laurels left
We just wait for first snow
It will seem beautiful then, novel

As it traces our footsteps
In a frothy whiteness of magical grafts
Marrying concrete with the skies
You will have parts of the world
Unmelted by sunrise, just a snow-covered

Precipice of cold, we endure this
With a voluntary patrol of visible breath
Under my breast and belly I feel grateful
To have a woman at my fire
It’s the pulse of the earth I miss the most

In those harsh winter months
The smiles and small laughter of spring
It’s a city without a name that freezes
So many people more sad without the sun
I can tell that winter is on her way again

Like minerals that forget to sound their last trumpet
My blood will not freeze, I will walk on.
