If Loving is Destiny

hae-mi

These poems mine, created early
Are nothing but the soft sense of gratitude
To life, what offered us so much!
If we took her for granted

Let it be known, that I’m drenched in dream
That I hadn’t known of your art yet, Hae.mi
I hadn’t felt your little joys
As a kind of graceful thunder

In my world of watching the eyes
Of human beings doing what they do
These poems mine, are reflections of nature
That drop from fountains like

Our toes wet in the dew, this living
Is so beautiful, even without possession
The feelings melt into a cohesive whole
Integrity with identity, wishing with hope

Touching briefly as light upon branches
Making love with a spiritual connection
The poems, on youth and ruin, are fading now…
I am nothing but a spy upon your divinity

Set in your beauty, hungry for your soul
Ready to deeply bury myself in your goodness
With the water and bread, with you as the last drop of honey
These poems mine, they just whisper

And there’s no grave to them, only endings
I’m talented in endings, as I am a decoration
For the muses, to life and all that we can never touch.

Soni’s Hour to Rejoice

“I must admit, I sometimes find it useful in my practice to delineate the various typologies of personality as cats and hens and ducks and swans and so forth.” – Women Who Run with the Wolves

son

Family, love, adventure
My skin breathes sunlight
Like women, who run with the wolves!
My heart beats stardust

Turned inside out with love
For creation, and our journeys
We who spell sacred syllables
With our blazing thrilled minds

And identity cascades in gratitude
With optimism, shining as the sun
A golden halo of all we have become
Family, love, adventure

More than thanks giving
My heart bleeds promise
With a hunger I cannot contain
For bliss, rapture, synthesis

Where we are the Earth
Where we came from, the lineage
Of so much destiny compacted
Each week is an ancestor’s mood

Each whim, a thread of Gaia’s moon
My soul contains all cosmic ingredients
Laughter, seduction, poetry
We’re like lost gifts completing each other

Where it’s not about being whole or strong
Or simply the attainment of goals
Security is following our intended course
And who’s to say what failures

Can teach us the most about ourselves
Family, love and adventure
I bounce like a nomad through the years
A boundless unfurling of miracles

A scriptive love of my own fate
The lyrics I was born to sing
If only at the center of my loving
My ability to create hope in life
And my duty to serve a higher truth.

On nights such as these

screen-shot-11-09-16-at-01-25-am

Graceful one, I am thankful for your skill in celebration

I’ve lived through you in a few short days

More than I have myself have lived or loved

I who, can never be a Mother or a friend like you

Hae.mi, beloved and always, the dark sweaty leaf of time

Is thick with longing in me, I sleep only to dream of you

I fill my heart with gratitude, only to learn the lessons of your sweetness

In the flower and in the heart of people

There’s no color that truly fades away, only transforms

Graceful one, with open arms I have found some solace

Hae.mi, hospitality of warm wet tears of belonging

I never knew or owned, the long rains fall provoking my mortality

I’ve lived in thirsty hours watching you, like a piece of youth returned

I who, can never be a Mother of a friend like you

Hae.me, betwitched and so completely filled with the nectar

As I sleep in isolation, my consolation is your freedom

My tenderness, is mirrored in your independence and success

My joy, the sense that you have transcended dependency  in others

Autumn nights have taught me this, and your deep acceptance.

I have promises yet to fulfill as my heart blazes by the seashore

Hae.me, why do you stalk me as the rice fields stalk the harvest?

After False Disasters of Failure

Let me not let God in the house
But instead let nature in my brain
With an open heart for all that is sacred
Gratitude, compassion, empathy
Can I live my life by these simple things?
I care not what happens to me
If I die a fool, alone, that is my fate
I don’t require faith, to appreciate
Let not idols of men be my guide
I am the spirit incarnate of all
I am the sweetness or the rise and the fall
When there is light, I am humble
Where there is darkness, I am graceful
Let me not let greed or comfort too close
But in experience find my course
That is not sure, but flexible
That I am not strong, but vulnerable
With an open heart for the credence of summer
Opened by the fragrance of spring.

You Lie Upon the Night Like I once Did

Screen Shot 08-11-15 at 12.30 AM

I am tired, Beloved
Chafing my heart against this world
The youth in me condemns
This dishonest world to change

The maturity in me condones
Myself for being unable to keep up
I am tired, but let us be of cheer
For gratitude is the boon

If suffering is the noble sacrifice
All beings make to experience
Don’t let your adventure by too tidy
Out of fear of getting hurt

You lie upon your stars
Like a nest of seeking security
But self, you’d be more divine
If you flung your heart
A little more upon the wind.

I Pass Death with the Dying

I Pass Death with the Dying

Has anyone supposed they are
Lucky to be born?
In this corner of the Universe
With this kind of a spark?

I watch the nature of my generation
Go extinct, the species
Have their last autumn
While the corporations thrive

And I have to wonder
Where is the gratitude
One of a dominant species
While we spend billions

On military to protect ourselves
From the threat of each other
How shall these worlds
Protect themselves from us?

Has anyone supposed
We disgrace the Earth
In a self-centered kind of dream
Where to profit and have families

Exceeds all other cause?
Has anyone supposed we are
Luck to be born?
And that living is about learning

To give back, I suppose not
We are pragmatic opportunists
More interested in sex, comfort
The survival of our genes

While our institutions like democracy
Have become so corrupt
Half of all people refuse to vote
Has anyone supposed why it is
There are no revolutions anymore?

Begetters of children are busy surviving
Consumers are tricked into buying
For me lips that have smiled
But not for ignorant cities

Built on the destruction of nature
Has anyone supposed
We are lucky to have been born?
In a time of so much change

That machines and supercomputers
Might turn us upon a more righteous path.

Mother’s D a y

Mother’s D a y

Thank you for bringing me
Into the world, Mother
My soul was built upon your love
My spirit blessed by your protection

I trust the world because of you
And claim special joys
For my descendants because
You loved being a Mother

With love and tenderness
That I might multiply it like beauty
In the Universe, and find
Respect and cherish women

More so than all other things
My Mother, you have always been
Like a dear friend, and have allowed me
The freedom to be myself

And in that freedom the Earth-mother
Has spoken to me, of what I need to do
To contribute back to life
All the labours of love

And all the sacrifices
To fight against cold fathers
And the rules of this world
Who hoard and profit while we struggle

These corporations who have
No ethics, barely any authenticity
Towards giving back, community
Thank you Mother, for making me

A feminist, in this world of Patriarchy
Where men exploit women
Rather than learning from them
And fault them for wanting so badly

To have children, like you did Mother
A good mother is irreplaceable
Somebody who is right for the job
It’s not everyone who should be a parent

My mother is my spine, keeping me straight and true
My blood of spiritual minerals
Making it run rich and strong
She is the beating heart of our humanity

Our guide to dreaming water
Our guide how to love ourselves and each other.
Mother, you filled my heart in the first place
With so much goodness, I am kind

A bit each day, like speechless gratitude
That purifies all it touches
It was you who taught me most
“We find ourselves in the sacrifices we make”

That love is to enjoy giving
More than receiving, it is true
The hope for altruism is still strong in me
Because I had a mother like you.

W e A r e What We T h i n k

If we become what we think
To purify the mind should
Should be our priority
The mind is everything

So let us not dwell on the past
Or dream too much of the future
But love the present as
The greatest gift, like

Health, wealth, faithfulness
And learn to love too
The nature of change who
Can be aggressive or docile

Peace comes from within
Conquer yourself with acceptance
Love yourself with surrender
The shadow’s good health requires

That we become less attached to our shadow
The patterns we fabricate
As comfortable routines of dysfunction
The shadow is what we must act upon

Holding on to anger or giving words
To sadness to ourselves
If we become what we think
We must laugh at our shadow

Convince it to dissolve
For we have to work our own salvation
Do not depend on others for it
They will not have time to care for it.

Preface to Old Age

14

Preface to Old Age

In passing a stranger
On the first summery day of spring
It struck me like true lines

It’s not happiness that makes
Us grateful, it’s gratitude that
Makes us happy, so I opened up

To the silence who had accompanied me
Since it was determined
The location of paradise was internal to me
So, acting on the anonymous tip
That love can be found inside

I decided to take a vacation
In the pursuit of my soul
To find an ethereal sense of hospitality
For living in my own skin
I learned that I’d have to work hard

As hard as any job to calm the ache
And as I count the stars before bed
I’ve come to realize

The celebration of life is all of it
Stars that disappear, people that leaves
Their bodies for other bodies, all of it.

It Fled from A l l M y E c s t a s y

New stars shed light on the past

It Fled from A l l M y E c s t a s y

Whoever has found himself, his soul
Must only seek obedience of divinity
What is divinity but the most natural
A longevity of following inner-beauty

Fading morning star to light of dawn
He who praises must become
Cup of gratitude, and luck of empathy
Found on the journey is the

Secret of compassion
Until we stop being so religious
And stop being so materialistic
Only then can we find the thread

The river of divine happiness
And peace like silence that hums
Tender offing of the soul’s common speech
In prayer, meditation, poetry, art

The ecstasy that the white birds bring
The heart behind the veil
This is what the angels weep
To unfurl its thousand saying voices
The arms of divine beauty are supremely glad.Screen Shot 05-03-15 at 09.44 AM

L i t t l e Acts of G i v i n g

Love won’t be taken back
It was given freely like always
Gratitude behaved good today in your heart
It will circulate in you like a diamond cutter
Night after night, those positive affirmations

Are echoing poems with forgiveness
For this world that does the unthinkable
To bodies, lives, souls, communities

ii

I used to think about the aftermath of idealism
How pragmatists forgot their youthful selves
So in the meantime, I’ve found a recipe
For staying young, in the spring-values
Of a lifetime, the heart hoards roses

And everything else is secondary
And everything that sings is that which listens
It’s an aerial visitation of summer

And every word rolls in the mouth
Like a delicate poem, like a tender bud
Love won’t end, it’s not a pie to be divided
It’s a sheltered free-flow of freedom
We’ll move higher and higher until

iii

We breathe the stars with likeness
Our simplicity will be a high-speed review
Of identity and shared identification

We’ll be thrill on the narrow streamline
Of mortal nights, and dive into a hundred
Pockets of hidden meaning, arriving always
At a new state of wonder, that’s gratitude
Some part of the heart that finally
Learned to receive by little acts of giving.

Psalm of Souls

The spirit is a beacon
And the righteous run to it and are safe
Among those whose faith is pure
How fine their company
Trusting in what is sure

The universe becomes a world of understanding
Our path becomes straight
The world strengths and helps us
And our righteousness is reflected
Back unto us, for good deeds multiply

Do not let your hearts be troubled
For in giving peace, peace may you receive
But take heart, even unkind men
Have a glimmer of hope
And nations in strife crave the faith

Benevolent acts are our refuge and our warmth
In giving we become free of our own troubles
Therefore focus on the on high
To make thy will pure with ease
Look upon the mountains and the skies

We were not given a timid spirit
But a spirit captured by the power of love
And the heart of self-discipline
That was born to love all creatures
And do good works unto this world

In bonds of mutual faith, good works become
Doing our spirit’s will and lifelong salvation
It is found in shouts of joy and bearing
Witness to the small victories of others
As if it were our own, how fine the company

Of our sisters and brothers in this place
The fraternity of all souls is my refuge
A community as large or small
As my heart is willing to bear
I preserve life according to words

Words that are my sacred weapons
Words that are my soul’s quality
Words that stream forth in amazement
Words that embrace and answer me
With the kindness of others
And the tenderness of life’s many wonders.

The Medicine Collaboration #NaPoWriMo #Gratitude

When I was a young poet, toiling on the writer’s cafe (www.writerscafe.org), there was this one constant presence. One indomitable giver of praise, recognition, reviews. I won’t forget WHO that was, or their quality of compassion, generosity and their human spirit: it’s

https://johncoyote.wordpress.com. This poem is dedicated to him:

The Medicine Collaboration

Life is hard, they used to tell me
I didn’t not understand
Until I found out for myself

Life punishes the ones we love
Enough, to internalize kindness
Is there a cost to being kind?
Mercy, forgiveness, gratitude

It’s not an investment
Altruism isn’t a burden
Being nice isn’t difficult

Life is hard, I heard it again
From my own mouth
Later in life, and I could see
What they were saying

Cut jobs, heartbreaks, divorce, debt
Living had a silent toll

Art was a release of the good & bad
The chronicle of our relationship
With a God, that wasn’t going
For an easy life without errors
Failures had a place in our learning

Evolution wasn’t afraid
Of tragedy, dying young, cancer

Life is hard
So why not try to do some good?

A Capsized Life

29

Capsized with Lightning

I want to catch edible stars
The kind that spill rare
Emotions, like gratitude
Or buttered up moods like
Wonder, gracious young-wonder
That fill your mind with

Wild fragrances, associations
You haven’t felt in years
I want the currents to pull me
Beneath the moon
Where the nets break
And I’m a prey to intense amazement

Where the masks fall off
And the veils are torn
In the poverty that deepens us
And you think of me as strange
But suffering has been kind to me
I’ve actually grown more sensitive.

The Mind is your Mirror

A Star-inspired poem:

42

The conditions of the human mind
Are the mysteries of life
How to focus on the positive?
To avoid poor energy management

So change the situation
By loving life more
Let that be your foundation
The present moment
Begs for your affirmation

Fear of loss, fear of failure
Fear of being hurt, fear of change
These are no longer helpful states
Discont is a form of apathy
Blaming is a form of self-hatred

Self-pity is a form of neglect
Do not succumb to these habits
If you wish to have a pure mind

If you wish to live a good life
The psyche is in your hands
The psyche that is never a victim
But a Beloved observer of your life
It does not judge you if you

Are late to bloom or have problems
Adjusting to the dreams or purpose
For which you were made uniquely

Love the actions you do
Take a loving responsibility
With the freedoms of being human.

What is the roof of all these Smiles

32

Build a house for
Women and birds
In your heart, so when they come
You can house them

And look into their
Beautiful eyes and hear
Their warm sweet song
For birds and women

Are part of the best of this world
Their sounds and colors and moods
I cannot think of a better reason
To build a house or to keep

It clean, inside and out
This body is a temple for
Love to welcome me into the world
I am grateful for every drop

I’ve been thirsty for a lifetime
For a bit of belonging
I’ve been hungry for a lifetime
For just a bit of hope

Teach me how to love again
Or sing me the song that you do
By instinct or the melody which
You were taught, by the Spring

All things are-to return to God
All lives find peace in the end.

To Let the World In Again

29
To Let the World In Again

Just remember
When the times are hard
What about when
Dear heart, I implore you
What about when

The hills are pink
In Summer morning’s embrace?
And the valley of forgiveness
Rises before your fate
The world still stands

Luminous as ever
Notwithstanding your
Dramas, these and those
The leaves still open
Like the soft dresses

Of magical hands
Graced with the mystery
Of all that is ordinary
Just remember
When the times are hard

There is bounty and blessings
More than your little body
And tiny mind can imagine
What about when
Dear heart, I implore you
The sunsets spring up
To let the world in again.

Psalm 11 – Fortitude

Praising love, I found a countenance
That could survive poverty
I found the magic to reject
The labels I was taught

And duality, seemed like a poor
Attitude, where I sought to feel unity
Praising beauty, I found myself
Rarely in adversity or internal strife

Praising God’s miracles, I escaped
The better part of oppression
Even if my trials were no less
Than others, I shared the burden

Of organics, in a world increasingly
Not chosen by God for his people
Where nobody was right or wrong
But just more or less out of date

Out of touch with the pace of change
Praising progress, I found myself learning
At every stage of life, waiting for a time
When I could talk to God again.

The White Sunset

36

Standing on the tiptoe
of my universe
I found I had

Nothing but love to offer
While the nature of
Anonymous cruel indifference
Can seem unnameably cold
I admired the ability of it

To make us feel free
Insolent as my fate had been
Greener than the word May

The mast of these afternoons
Only beggared for moderation
And that enraptured simplicity
From which I came
That was enough, and so were

The rest of the years that I was given
at the asylum of the eucalypti
I would rest, and it would be
Wondrous and christening
Like a white sunset.

These words have survived separations
Faces I can no longer remember of loved ones
Poetry has transcended my decades

Spacious and fluent like a last reminder
Of why truth is no longer as important
As beauty, inner beauty of a spiritual quality
Alphabets now shelter this candle
This life that was my hopes and dreams

These most intimate self-deceptions
Wildest faith of wonderful illusions
For a moment still I am there

With moons and roses, aware of nothing
But the shine of creativity on our inner cheek
The mineral blossoms and lotus of our imagination
It’s pure there to write like drunken water
In a light of its own color, reflecting the pauses

Silences, spaces in-between relationships and solitude
That was the best quality of the life I lived.

I lose myself inside this soft world

Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods.

Everyday wonder makes a claim in my life
she kills me with delight
for an ordinary pleasure or a surprise

light on the haystack, breeze on the stream
hope in the eyes of the young
faith in the heart of a pure soul
I’d like to think I have acclimatized myself
To joy, but it’s not true

we don’t have an exceptional relationship yet
though we are bonding, building rapport
it can take years of untrimmed kindness

to sooth a weary soul, lips of spirit
kisses of altruism, echoes of passion
everyday wonder, makes a hole
in the place inside of me where
I make my daily presentation to myself

nudging me to celebrate, what I do have
love that has found me, friends who stay
poverty shows prosperity, hardship shows strength

while we are growing wise,
we are growing old, I’m not surprised
to feel a little more mindful sometimes.

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

56

Let’s go dancing to the ceiling
with candles for our soul
let’s hide out amidst the fireworks
and wait for hypnotic words

so in awe of our time here
with an insistence on revolution
for the genuine rapport of living beings

Let’s go afrolick with the world
in countries and clans of sympathy
let’s appease the nomad within
strike a chord and bargain with elements

outside of our comfort zones
let’s go gawking beneath the stars
miracle-work on the front lines

unbridled like a spirit without melancholy
let’s become somebody else
change our name, our address, our friends
discover romance without shunning

deeper questions, write the screenplay
of the poetry of our human evolution
without fear, tonight is clear

i can’t afford a star anyway
but they say sunlight is free down here
a smirk for fate’s untapped paradise
a joke for these pioneering twitches

that do not end, but ascend, ripple and contend
that to describe a moment is impossible
joy has an essence of improvisation.

The Power of Wealth

19

Gratitude, is lost in this world
Of possession, accumulation, hoarding
You seek security, and end up losing choice?
And you want prosperity, trading it for freedom?

Learn then from God’s few messengers
This alchemy, be satisfied with what you are given
For greed takes away from some other person?
And having is meaningless in a temporary world

Be grateful for the food you eat
For the friends who listen to you
And when grief comes to teach you
Pay attention, do not fret as if it’s the end of the world

Gratitude, is lost in this selfish community
Where individuals are promoted for
A lonely self-absorbed heroics at the marketplace…
Be grateful for your health, and use this power

Responsibly, for wealth is not the praise of competition
It is a power to be given, a licence to help others.

I Am Made to Bow

26

I affirm what Divinity affirms
What does God affirm?
So if you cannot negate
What God negates, how

Do you suppose to commune with her?
She knows that I am a member
Of ignorance-society, so she smiles
And ask me to have a sense of

Humour, I precede to fill my days
With signs of gratitude
For a Lord Supreme, nature
In the silence of earth-necessity

I affirm what evolution allows
Secretly, her powers of heaven-necessity
Immediately, faultlessly, working
Through me, as a Man who

Unknowingly crawls towards God
But women, breathlessly bow to Delight
Knowing divinity more intimately,
If I affirm those who empower nature

I must learn to serve women better.
My Beloved Supreme who
Teaches me how to give, not from capacity
But from striving to emulate her perfection.

I Would Like to be the Air that Inhabits you for a Moment

29

I would like to watch you sleeping
But for that to happen, you’d have to let me in
Let me into your life, learn to trust

Have me near indefinitely –
I’ve been lonely for too long
I would like to sleep with you

A smooth dark wave drifting over us
My toes on your heels, my arm
Over your hip, your hair – in my face

I’ve been sleeping alone, on a hard bed
Staring at poverty, nobody stares back at me
I would like to watch you sleeping

On those days I stay up, thanking
Someone out there, for keeping you here
Because I fear the watery sun of abandonment

Every month you stay, is a silver star
In my heart getting stronger, more alive
But there are no promises, when you make

Somebody else the center of your dream
I would like to watch you sleeping
But right now, you are sleeping with somebody else.
