The definitive Guide to Self-Helping

There comes a time in a life
When you ask yourself what is truly important
And then you have the courage
And the imperative wisdom

To execute the building
Of your life around your answer
It’s preferable to have suffered a little
It’s preferable to have struggled a little

Before you reach this point
Because only then will you fight
For what you deserve, after all that giving
Take time to be selfish, for a change

Because love, time, health and money
Are resources that can deplete at any moment
So you owe it to yourself
To be authentic and define and redefine

Your own character and life as you see fit
If today was the last day of your life
Would you do what you are about
To do tomorrow, or take another path?

If you are going to own who you are
And what you do, do it with no apology
No masks, no cover, no false pride
If you cannot keep it simple, who will

If you cannot do it honest, then what
If you can’t keep it real, then
You may regret simply doing
What was expected of you all along

The authentic self is the soul made visible
That power doesn’t come without effort.

Preaching to Trees

A Self-Help poem series.

45

The secret to happiness
Has always been
Simple, the ability to

Let nature take care of nature
That means not living
In the past or future
Naturally, you will

Be an eternal present
That is the purity of experience
Your whole life occurs
In the now, so don’t be

Afraid to experience
Because the more you
Experience, the more mature
You will become naturally

The secret of happiness
Is to know and abide
By one’s nature, not pretending
To be something or someone else

The trees are green
Not for a particular person
It is not that when you look
They become green, they were

Always that way and happy
For the state of a flower is
To prepare to bloom
And the state of a person

Is to prepare to love
What could be more natural?
What could be better
We come into this world

A part of our mother
So of course we are tempted
To find intimacy in another
In a group, in a cause, in
The unity of nature itself.

Reciprocal Simplicity

A Star-inspired poem:

43

Reciprocal Simplicity

Acceptance is a key
To intimacy with the world
It implies trust
It implies hospitality
It implies helping others
Be who they truly are

That is the real key to
Spiritual relationships
To build rapport with
The core of a person
That part of them that shines

When their eyes glimmer
With faith, hope, positive vibrations
So that person can be more
Powerful, and not down-trodden
Human intimacy is a bridge

To altered states, friendship
Can be the catalyst to change
Acceptance is a freedom
From judgement and competition
Acceptance is to connect

Without inhibition or constraint
But to be together without
Mental labels or cognitive gossip
It takes some practice but
That’s the subtle energy

That is a very real sense of
Well-being that I’d like to experience.

The Mind is your Mirror

A Star-inspired poem:

42

The conditions of the human mind
Are the mysteries of life
How to focus on the positive?
To avoid poor energy management

So change the situation
By loving life more
Let that be your foundation
The present moment
Begs for your affirmation

Fear of loss, fear of failure
Fear of being hurt, fear of change
These are no longer helpful states
Discont is a form of apathy
Blaming is a form of self-hatred

Self-pity is a form of neglect
Do not succumb to these habits
If you wish to have a pure mind

If you wish to live a good life
The psyche is in your hands
The psyche that is never a victim
But a Beloved observer of your life
It does not judge you if you

Are late to bloom or have problems
Adjusting to the dreams or purpose
For which you were made uniquely

Love the actions you do
Take a loving responsibility
With the freedoms of being human.

Each time nature solved everything for us

Instructions for living a life:
Love cleanly
Let go easily
Learn without inhibition
There were no enemies

There was only this
Impression of ignorance
This clamour of attention
By the self to the self
A feeling of drama

And anonymity
The intelligent machines
Kept asking good questions
Each time they seemed
To solve everything with

Their quantum algorithms
Being human wasn’t
So easy, we were biological
Programs uprooted from
The Earth, tempted by

Society to do unnatural things
And live lives that
Fundamentally, went against
The universal laws of nature
That couldn’t be easy?

How could we live a life
Without regrets, without
Irony and sadness
Love clearly
Let go easily

Learn without inhibition
That’s what said:
The water
The wind
And the seasons.

Experience in perihelion

24

Violets, doves, girls, bees
And oh, hyacinths
Are inconstant objects
With an inconstant cause

So floods the springs
It must change, face
To face, epoch to epoch
Thought to thought

Year to year, swollen
With the mutability of life
Energy in a universe
Of light pushing the pace

The heroic part is not
Surviving it all, it’s
To learn to let go
The major abstraction

Is not to plan for a future
But to transcend the idea
Of being ready for a future
That is always just an

Illusion of what today is
The partners leave, the kids
They grow up, the money
Separates from your fingers

The memories grow exotic
Life bleeds a final elegance
In how quickly it leaves
The beating heart, the candles
That went out in the rain.

And amazing things can happen

15

Who knows the life-hoping lightness
That mirrors the death-dealing
Weight of mortal worries
The sunlit path is there

For the spirit’s easy contentment
Circumstance is not an obstacle
But an opportunity
A loving mirror

For you to become stronger
To face what you were
Meant to face like hardship
With a good attitude

And normal trials
With a sense of
Compassion and fortitude
There is no formula to

Follow, only the course
Nature has set before you
So follow it, with a measure
Of grace and the recognition

That everything passes with ease
The present becomes the past
And what once seemed like
The future becomes a dream

Love sorrow, when she knocks
At the door, permit all feelings
To enter your house and exit
Through the back window

If necessary, utterly alone or
Utterly all together, it amounts
To a minute shift of perspective.

A Self-Help Poem

To love life, a gift from Creation
Is a duty we too easily forget
Misunderstood is the wonder
Lost in suffering, is the gratitude

But friendship with life, is so
Essential to finding beauty
Learning like a child, so fundamental
In our ability to appreciate circumstance

And paramount, in the capacity
Of limited creatures to choose free-will
And exercise their soul, in blossoms
Of experience, in honest affections

In pure becoming, that’s the philosophy
No trials can censure love out
There are these holy attractors
These metaphysical magnets of bliss

They are quantum fuel for the sensitive
Not only to be sensitive to suffering
But sensitive to virtue, open to kindness
Giving and receiving, without judgement

Participating in harmony spontaneously
God knows you are apt to enjoy suffering
But to make it a habit would be an absurdity
Make love the habit you base your life upon

To walk a golden path with a smile
To find your dreams on a sunlit assertion
That your life is what you believe it can be:
Life is a perception of how you reinforce the positive.
