White Noise

White Noise

I was nothing before
I became someone
Was light, came from water
Went into the air
Or felt the Earth beneath
My toes and loved
The Universe before I knew
How old it was, grandmother cosmos
Do not dismiss the white noise
It is the quantum of everywhere
And I too am part of that
Until I decay and by whim
Become part of nature indistinct
Though intelligence is everywhere
And so I will listen in the silence
For the sound of the universe
Hear the voices of beings
Feel the experience of others
As if it was my own, that is
My gift, the identity of understanding
The empathy of centuries
The love of history reincarnated.

Before Man

27

Between the first and last
Nothingness, before the cry of Men
I feel the silence of centuries

When Earth was occupied by
A fathomless zero of eternity
A tulip temple of wakeless night

Dawns and sunsets gone uninterrupted
Before the tardy suffering of mortality
That mute featureless unknown

Of absolute patience is, prolonging
The quantum observation of creation
The kind slumber of a million suns

Jeweled dreams of nameless movement
Before symbol, idea, language, innovation
And before fire, war, cities, desire, wealth

All that makes men beasts and unspiritual
I feel the shadows spinning, entry of souls
The heavy cosmic rest before another cycle

One spirit sole of creation ready to rise again
Yet another species to make their disillusioned grin
Their stamp upon resources, upon history

To force the world’s blind necessity
To arise with the glamour of the flesh
And make the worlds shudder with man made scars.

The Hollows Made By Lovers in us through Harsh Words

27

Once you have learned these words
You will forget silence
Like learning heartbreak
You will renounce love

These are true stories of living
The word hangs like an anchor
It is used against us like a weapon
The very same voice you once served

Once you have learned these words
You will know the language of humanity
They will shape you to be insensitive
And burn a smudge of orange across your face

Every time you forget the rift of inner beauty
You will die a little more to the child you once were
Before language, before symbols corrupted you
You hold yourself between these two words

One silent, and the other an action
So be careful what you say, knowing
How words once damaged you, be gentle
To those closer to the silence
To those more fresh from the source.
