Amorphous

Amorphous

We were a spark conceived
From the scope of ether
Rift of dreams that
Navigated separation, changing worlds
I could not seduce you

Amorphous, you were like
Waters through my hands
The ache of happenings

Unreachable, impenetrable
The bubble of too many lifetimes
Your papaya body would be
For others to touch, your tomato kisses
Would be for other lips to suck

The sweetest offers were fleeting
Amorphous, you are, you were
Like a gentle breeze on my back

That I could not reach or sleep inside
A plum tree with forbidden fruit
How sweet the fragrance of your need
Out of those hairy recesses where stood
A triumphant mound of flesh

Free from martyrdom and servitude
Free at least and for what
Soul beneath all kisses and wine

Night-long and aching across distances
I as if with old passion must depart
Too intimate the rose-bush
Too immediate those heaving breasts
We are a spark conceived to alter
The sense of touched destiny.

Significant Other

28

I’ve braided your looks
Into my soul like
A knot of nurturance

Your burgundy tongue
Of earth-laced hope
In truth, I’m not sure

I would survive without you
The writing that writes in me
And the art of harmony

Incarnated in our daily lives
Through the paired fortunes
Of our highs and lows

I live in awe of your embrace
Your laugh over our ashes
The destiny of waiting

A lifetime just for a moment
We’ve swam in darkness
Endured a loyalty of stupidity

To people who were ingenuine
I’ve tattooed your language
Into my consciousness

That I might be able to
Speak and write mandarin
Poems one day, so that

The spoken tongues
Of the ancient Taoists
Might speak through me.

No Home like Femininity

Lying in bed I almost mistake Good health for youth Moonlight on the floor For memories of your skin Looking up I see the cold light For what it is, birthplace Source, cool strength Like your body that carried me … Continue reading

A Woman of Quality

A woman of quality teaches you Mandarin
She takes refuge in you like
A forsaken valley, she builds there, serves there
To create a good family
She brings fortune, like heartlands that
Side with Heaven’s authority
The world will not turn against her
For her virtues insure success
She has endurance, and a heart of lamp-flames
She sheds light on any situation
A woman of quality teaches children
The ways of the compassionate world
Beyond beauty and rivalry, she empathizes
With the high mountains, the clear spring water
Her tears reach golden lowlands
Like a forsaken widow, or divorced lady
Her smile is the last saving grace
She knows the rumor of pearls, of working hard
She picks flowers and covers berries
In the sleeves of bamboo monuments
And makes a legend out of your life
Hers is the myth that will never die.
